On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany, and as part of ongoing meetings, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the following regarding the meeting:

"On Sunday, 15 February 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mr. Mazloum Abdi, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The meeting addressed recent security developments in Syria, where the Minister affirmed Iraq’s endorsement and support for efforts aimed at reaching an agreement with the Transitional Syrian Government.

The discussion also covered the transfer of ISIS prisoners to Iraq and exchanged views regarding the detainees’ files, emphasizing the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region, preventing any escalation, and preserving calm and restraint. The parties also reviewed the living and administrative conditions in the Syrian Jazira canton, reflecting Iraq’s commitment to enhancing security and stability and serving the interests of the region.
