Mazloum Abdi: AANES’ participation crucial to solving Syrian crisis

Mazloum Abdi, the Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, spoke to Ronahi TV about the most pressing issues in Syria in general and the regions of North and East Syria in particular.

He referred to the decision to raise the flag of Syrian independence on all institutions, adding: “We are part of Syria, and we accept the Syrian flags and symbols.”

Manbij, Kobani, and the ceasefire agreement

Mazloum Abdi addressed the situation in Manbij Canton, noting that their forces are adhering to the ceasefire agreement, but Turkish-backed mercenaries are not abiding by it and are violating the agreement.

Abdi expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement would come into effect tomorrow, Friday, and that it would eventually turn into a comprehensive agreement.

He confirmed that according to the agreement, “there should be no military forces in Manbij,” a clear hint toward the agreement to clear Manbij of all armed formations.

Regarding the attacks on southern rural Kobani, specifically in the Qereqozaqê area, Abdi stated that their forces defended the region bravely.

He also pointed out that Turkey is facing significant international pressure due to these attacks, affirming that any Turkish attack on Kobani would result in a repeat of Kobani's historic resistance.

The SDF Commander also mentioned their proposal to return the remains of Suleiman Shah as a gesture of goodwill from their side.

Agreement with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)

Mazloum Abdi revealed the existence of an agreement between them and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor, noting that their presence in western Deir ez-Zor was aimed at preventing ISIS advancements.

He confirmed that at the start of the attacks, they received assurances from HTS that their areas would not be targeted.

Turkey and occupied areas

The SDF Commander disclosed that Russia was aware of HTS’s attack through Turkey, pointing out that “groups affiliated with Turkey cannot make decisions without Ankara's approval.”

He also revealed that there are possibilities to resolve the issue of the occupied areas, referring to regions occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries.

Mazloum Abdi reiterated that they do not pose a threat to Turkey's security and renewed their willingness to engage in dialogue with Turkey.

He highlighted that Turkey is attempting to exclude them from the political phase as much as possible, stressing that no one in Syria wants war except the groups affiliated with Turkey.

The Syrian political solution

Mazloum Abdi emphasized the need for unity and brotherhood among peoples now more than ever, pointing out that the Syrian crisis has not been resolved due to the exclusion of the Autonomous Administration from discussions.

He affirmed that the participation of the Autonomous Administration in the political phase will bring about a solution to the Syrian crisis, adding: “The Kurds must have a unified position in the new phase for Syria.”

Abdi also expressed hope that the administration of South Kurdistan would take a stance to unify the Kurdish ranks.

In conclusion, the SDF Commander-in-Chief affirmed that “the dangers are not over yet,” calling on the people to unite with the military forces and asserting that “with the support and solidarity of our people, we will overcome this sensitive phase.”
