Martyrs' Families in Qamishlo condemn assaulting martyrs' pictures in Jalabiya, call for accountability

The Martyrs' Families Council in Qamishlo issued a statement to the public opinion on Thursday regarding the vandalism of the council's building in the town of Jalabiya of Kobani, and the tearing down of martyrs' pictures during the recent attacks on the area.

The statement was read in Kurdish by the council member Liloz Khalil and in Arabic by the council member Obaid Ati.

The council confirmed in its statement that the martyrs' pictures are living symbols of the people's sacrifices for the sake of freedom and dignity, not merely landmarks, but rather a source of inspiration and a compass towards achieving the struggle's goals.

The statement indicated that this attack carries serious implications, most notably targeting the symbols of the martyrs in an attempt to break the will of their families and undermine community morale, in addition to serving the agendas of forces seeking to destabilize the region, erase its identity, and incite discord and sow division among its communities.

The council emphasized that these practices will not deter them from adhering to the path of the martyrs, affirming that the martyrs' status is firmly rooted in the conscience of society and cannot be violated.

The Council of Martyrs' Families called upon the security and relevant authorities to launch an immediate investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. At the same time, it called upon civil society organizations, political parties, and the residents of Kobani and Jalabiya to unite and confront such acts, and to work to protect the values and unity of society.

The statement concluded by reaffirming their commitment to the path of the martyrs, stressing that any insult to the people's sacred symbols is unacceptable and condemned.
