Martyrs’ families: Freedom of Leader Ocalan is political, moral necessity

Today, the Councils of Martyrs’ Families in Tabqa and the displaced people from Afrin and Shahba issued a statement to the public, condemning the ongoing isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The statement was read in front of the Martyrs’ Families Council building in central Tabqa, in the presence of the families of martyrs and members of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Tabqa Canton, by Mahmoud Al-Sail, the co-chair of the Martyrs’ Families Council in Tabqa.

The statement affirmed: "The isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan for more than a quarter of a century constitutes a heinous crime devoid of any human qualities. The continuation of this isolation and the refusal to release him cannot be considered merely an individual matter concerning his person alone, but rather a direct targeting of the will of millions of free people and supporters of democracy in the region and the world."

It clarified that Leader Ocalan was not just a political leader of a past era, but has become a symbol of a thought striving to build a society based on social justice, equality, and the principle of brotherhood among peoples. He offered peaceful solutions to the conflicts in the region, as well as initiatives and visions for dialogue and peace that could have ended decades of conflict and destruction.

The statement also pointed out: "The Turkish authorities refuse to respond to these initiatives and insist on maintaining the isolation, which further complicates the situation and prevents the achievement of lasting peace."

Expressing the families’ position on the isolation imposed on Leader Ocalan, the statement said: "On behalf of the Councils of Martyrs’ Families in the Tabqa, Shahba and Afrin Cantons, we denounce this imposed isolation. We call for his release after all the initiatives he has presented to end the conflict in the region. We affirm that the leader’s freedom is not merely a humanitarian demand, but a political and moral necessity to achieve a secure future marked by justice and freedom for all peoples."
