According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, two unidentified assailants opened fire on a man belonging to the Shiite community, a father of three, in the Ghizlaniyah area of Eastern Ghouta, killing him instantly.

The incident comes amid a continued rise in sectarian-motivated crimes in areas controlled by the Transitional Government, amid the absence of accountability, rule of law, and the persistence of hate-driven rhetoric.

The Observatory revealed that since the beginning of 2025, the total number of victims of sectarian revenge-related killings in areas under Transitional Government control has reached 1,121 people, including 1,059 men, 40 women, and 22 children.
