Man dies mysteriously in Public Security prison, Aleppo

After 40 days of detention by Public Security forces under the transitional government in Damascus, the family of Kurdish citizen Firas Farouq Bouzan (39 years old) was informed to come and retrieve his lifeless body. 

Firas, originally from the villages of the Al-Bab area and residing in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, was the sole provider for his family.

Local sources told ANHA Agency’s correspondent that Public Security forces accused Firas of theft, leading to his detention without sufficient evidence or proof.

Family sources confirmed that the victim was not presented to a competent judicial authority for a fair investigation into the charges against him. The family stated they had received promises of his release today after communicating with several parties. However, contrary to expectations, the Aleppo prison administration informed them of the need to collect their son’s body.

 Around 5 a.m. today, the Aleppo prison administration, affiliated with the transitional government in Damascus, contacted Firas’s wife, informing her that he had died in prison due to a “stroke” and high blood pressure. They instructed her to retrieve his body from the forensic medicine department.

However, other information suggested the presence of bruises on his body, indicating he may have been subjected to beating and torture in prison. Despite this, the forensic medical report stated that the death was natural, caused by high blood pressure.

The family did not respond to inquiries about the presence of bruises on the victim’s body, for reasons that remain unclear.
