Main roads blocked in Tel Tamer in protest against obstruction of convoy heading to Alouk water station

A popular protest was staged in Tel Tamer today, where the M4 international highway and other main roads connecting Hasakah, Qamishlo, and Ras al-Ain were blocked. 

The residents of the city and the displaced persons from Ras al-Ain/ Serê Kaniyê have joined the demonstration in protest against the obstruction of the convoy of the governor of Hasakah while he was on his way to the Alouk water station for its official opening.

They blockaded the roads, stating that the blocking of the convoy would impede the resumption of work at the Alouk water station on which hundreds of thousands of people rely for drinking water.

The participants emphasized that their action was to express their rejection of any measures that would disrupt the station's operation or impede access to it. They called for ensuring the continued and regular flow of water, free from any obstacles that might affect the basic needs of the population.

The cities and towns of Hasakah and Tel Tamer are awaiting the resumption of operations at the Alouk station, which is the main source of drinking water in the region, after a long series of outages that have had widespread humanitarian and service-related consequences, forcing residents to rely on emergency solutions and alternative water sources.

Today, the governor of Hasakah, accompanied by a government delegation headed by Energy Minister Mohammed al-Bashir, headed to the station to restart operations. Some settlers in Ras al-Ain attempted to block the delegation's convoy.
