Following the departure of the fourth convoy of displaced residents from villages in Serêkaniyê, comprising 514 families returning to their homes, preparations are now underway to begin the return of displaced residents to the city center after years of displacement, in coordination with the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee.

Mahmoud Khalil (Siamand Afrin) the deputy commander of the Internal Security Forces, told ANHA agency: “Our goal is to send two convoys every week, each carrying 500 families, to ensure their safe and peaceful return and prevent any problems that could put displaced people at risk.”

Khalil explained that 75 villages are now ready for their residents to return, adding that three trips scheduled for this week will enable approximately 2,000 families from these villages to return.

He added that the return of displaced villagers would coincide with preparations to facilitate the return of those displaced from Serêkaniyê city itself. He noted that 50 families currently living in homes belonging to displaced residents had left for their own homes in the Gweiran, Nashwa and Aziziyah neighborhoods of Hasakah.

Khalil said the return of displaced residents to central Serêkaniyê would be coordinated with the city's Displaced Persons Committee after confirming that their homes had been vacated and were ready for habitation.

He concluded: “We want all displaced people to return before winter, giving them enough time to prepare their homes and settle in before their suffering worsens with the arrival of the winter season.”

For his part, Mahmoud Jamil, spokesperson for the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, said the fourth convoy comprised 514 families from villages in Serekaniye and Tal Tamr. He explained that the convoy did not include people displaced from the city center because their homes were not yet ready for them to return.

Jamil added that 50 families who had been living in homes belonging to displaced residents of Serêkaniyê had returned to Hasakah. Another 150 families were expected to leave those homes today, paving the way for their rightful owners to return.
