On March 18, the People’s Municipality in the town of Tel Tamr began rehabilitation work on a temporary section of the M4 highway after it was damaged by rising water levels in the Khabur River following heavy rainfall in recent days.

As a result of continued heavy rains and rising water levels, the road went out of service again today for the second time.

The M4 highway is considered one of the most vital and strategic roads in northern Syria, connecting major cities such as Hasakah, Raqqa, Kobani, and Manbij, extending to Aleppo. It is widely used for transporting civilians and goods between regions of North and East Syria and other parts of the country.

Syria has witnessed heavy rainfall and storms over the past week, leading to water accumulation, river overflows, and flooding in several displacement camps.
