The Lebanese General Directorate of Public Security announced the extension of the deadline for regularizing the status of Syrian workers until January 29, 2027 inclusive, as part of measures that include foreign workers who violate the residency system.

The Directorate confirmed that after the deadline, it will intensify the application of the laws and regulations in force against non-Lebanese residents residing illegally, calling on those wishing to inquire about settlement procedures to contact the call center on number 1717, or to review its website and official accounts.

The General Security had previously extended the procedures for regulating the status of Syrian workers until September 30, which includes regulating the status of workers in companies and institutions, obtaining work permits from the Ministry of Labor, then visiting the General Security centers to issue annual residency permits, in addition to procedures for transferring sponsorship and settling the status of other categories of workers.

The General Security announcement comes after a separate decision issued by the Lebanese Ministry of Labor on October 13, extending the deadline for regularizing the status of undocumented foreign workers until December 31, 2026 inclusive, with applications being made available directly to the ministry or via LibanPost.

The ministry explained that the extension came in response to demands from economic sectors, and to allow additional time to complete transactions that could not be completed due to security and economic conditions, as well as the high demand for settlement.

Thus, the settlement deadline at the Ministry of Labor ends on December 31, 2026, while the deadline announced by the General Security continues until January 29, 2027, which necessitates taking into account the difference in the two dates when completing work and residency transactions.
