Leader Ocalan’s Physical Freedom key to peace success

Residents of Çil Agha city in Jazira Canton spoke about the peace process and the democratic society initiative launched by Leader Abdullah Ocalan, emphasizing that his physical freedom is a basic prerequisite for the success of the peace process.

In this context, citizen Zaher Al-Din Haji said: “Leader Abdullah Ocalan launched many serious initiatives and steps to ensure the success of the peace process and the democratic society. Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party announced its support for this initiative by taking historic steps before the eyes of the world and local and international media, aiming to support the peace process and create a suitable climate for dialogue.”

“We Will Not Accept Any Peace Without the Leader’s Physical Freedom”

Haji continued: “However, these steps were not met with similar measures by the Turkish authorities, which remain non-transparent in their position and have not taken any practical steps to improve dialogue conditions, launch a clear negotiation process, or address the file of rights and freedoms in Turkey. Instead, Turkey interferes in Syrian internal affairs and stands as an obstacle to the success of the March 10 agreement, revealing contradictions in its political and security stance toward the peace process.”

Haji called on the Turkish authorities to act seriously, end the isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and ensure his physical freedom, stressing:

“The physical freedom of the Leader is a fundamental condition for the success of peace, and we will not accept any peace without achieving it.”

For her part, citizen Robin Yusuf said: “Turkey is not serious about achieving peace, and this is evident from its statements and its failure to take any practical steps that confirm its intentions. So far, all steps taken in this path have been the efforts of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the continued initiatives of Leader Ocalan.”

Yusuf pointed out that Turkey’s continued interference in Syrian internal affairs—especially in any agreements between the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces with the transitional government in Syria—and its constant attempts to create discord among Syria’s components demonstrate Turkey’s lack of seriousness in establishing peace and stability in the region.

She added: “The freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan is a key and essential demand for the success of the peace process and the building of a democratic society.”

Azima Rustam also joined these views, confirming that Turkey is not serious about ensuring the success of any efforts toward peace and democracy. She said:

“Turkey is trying to buy time to change political conditions in the region in its favor, but its continued procrastination will cause it to lose a historic opportunity to achieve a just and lasting peace. Turkish authorities must move from words to actions and respect the will of the people demanding peace and an end to the era of wars.”

Azima Rustam concluded by stressing that the future of the peace process and democratic society—after the announcement by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party—has become dependent on achieving the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Öcalan. She noted that the success of this process depends on Turkey’s willingness to respond to popular demands to end the isolation imposed on the Leader and to stop policies that deepen internal and regional crises.
