Leader Abdullah Ocalan sent a written message to the European delegation, consisting of 39 people including academics, parliamentarians, lawyers, and journalists, who came from Europe to Istanbul to visit him and hold talks.

The message read:

"To my dear friends...

After this long journey, your efforts to put the quest for freedom, which has become tangible in me, on the agenda, and at the same time your request to meet with me, is something meaningful and of great value from my perspective. First, I see this effort not merely as individual solidarity or a pursuit of personal freedom; rather, it is part of social peace, democratic solution, and the will of peoples to live together in freedom.

I have never considered my personal freedom independent from social freedom. Moreover, I have always emphasized that individual freedoms do not find their true meaning under conditions where social freedom is not built. Therefore, I see your step in this direction as a valuable contribution and a courageous call for a shared democratic future for our peoples.

I have been informed of your request to meet. I hope the conditions will be arranged for such a meeting in the coming period. In this regard, I express my greetings and respect to everyone who contributed, not only myself but everyone who contributed to the democratic will of our peoples and the pursuit of freedom.

I hope we can meet face to face in days of freedom, and in an environment where a democratic society is being built...

Abdullah Ocalan

Imrali Prison."
