Kurdish Red Crescent supports people affected by floods in South Kurdistan

The Kurdish Red Crescent issued a statement on Monday at its hospital in Qamishlo regarding the dire humanitarian situation caused by the floods in Chamchamal province and Shorsh district in South Kurdistan.

On December 9, 2025, Chamchamal province and Shorsh district in South Kurdistan were struck by devastating floods resulting from torrential rains. The floods caused significant human and financial losses, as local sources reported two deaths and approximately 12 injuries transported to medical centers.

More than a thousand homes were either completely or partially damaged, along with dozens of shops and vehicles, along with infrastructure and public services which were also inflicted extensive damage, leading to road closures and disruptions in some areas.

Civil defense teams and relevant authorities have begun rescue and debris removal operations, while simultaneously launching local relief campaigns to provide humanitarian aid, including food and basic necessities, to the affected residents.

The statement issued by the Kurdish Red Crescent, read by the co-chairs of the Kurdish Red Crescent in North and East Syria, Hadiya Abdullah and Delgesh Issa, explained that the Kurdish Red Crescent is fully prepared to provide all forms of humanitarian, relief and medical assistance, and to respond immediately to any appeal for support that contributes to alleviating the suffering of those affected.
