Kurdish Parties Meeting: affirming unity, calling for comprehensive Kurdish Conference

Amid the rapid changes taking place in Syria, the Kurdish parties in al-Jazira Canton in northeastern Syria met today, March 16, 2025, to discuss political and national developments. The meeting began with a minute of silence for the martyrs of the Halabja massacre and all martyrs of freedom, reflecting the deep connection between the past and present in the Kurdish struggle.

After approving the agenda, the attendees discussed the issues raised at the national and regional levels, the necessity of holding a Kurdish conference in Rojava, and the repercussions of delaying it, with the participation of all Kurdish political and societal parties and forces.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the attendees issued a statement, which was delivered in Kurdish by Talal Mohammed, Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Peace Party, and in Arabic by Narin Metiny, head of the Kurdistan Future Movement.

According to the statement, the meeting reviewed the political document extracted by the parties sponsoring the Kurdish-Kurdish dialogue, from the two documents submitted by the Kurdish National Unity Parties and parties outside the frameworks, on the one hand, and the formula submitted by the Kurdish National Council, on the other.

The meeting decided to approve its submission to the upcoming conference for approval, as a major good news for our people during the Newroz holidays.

The meeting also stalled, according to the statement, when the Kurdish National Council insisted on holding a separate meeting with the Democratic Union Party (PYD). The statement added, "Out of our commitment to reaching a unified Kurdish position, we, as members of the meeting parties, believe that such a meeting is possible, as any party, including the Democratic Union Party (PYD), can hold a meeting with any party. Based on this, we have demonstrated sufficient flexibility to achieve our goals. We fully affirm that this meeting is not a substitute for the work and procedures of the conference preparatory committee, nor will it replace the dialogue committees between the Kurdish National Council and the Kurdish National Unity Parties."

The meeting emphasized the need to achieve Kurdish unity at this delicate and critical stage facing Syria in general, and Rojava and North and East Syria in particular.

The meeting also reviewed the meetings taking place between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Damascus authorities.

At the conclusion of the statement, the statement affirmed its full support for the Democratic Autonomous Administration, with its civil and military institutions, in Rojava and North and East Syria.
