Kurdish Language Institution launches first course in Raqqa Canton

On May 15, the Education Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Raqqa Canton inaugurated the first institution specialized in teaching the Kurdish language. This initiative marks a first of its kind in the canton.

Today, the institution began its inaugural Kurdish language course, which includes 25 students from various communities.

The program lasts for nine months, divided into three consecutive phases, each lasting three months. It includes periodic assessments and final exams at the end of each stage. Successful students will receive certificates issued by the Education Authority.

With this certificate, qualified students can continue their studies at the Teacher Preparation Institution.

The teaching staff consists of three instructors and a co-presidency that oversees administrative matters, along with an archive department responsible for organizing and documenting the educational process.

Classes are held three days a week, Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. As the number of students increases, the schedule will be split into morning and afternoon shifts to accommodate all learners, according to institution administrators.

The institution accepts students aged 16 and above and is committed to welcoming all segments of society, reflecting the Autonomous Administration's dedication to promoting coexistence and cultural openness.

This institution is the first public educational center for teaching the Kurdish language in Raqqa Canton and is part of the Autonomous Administration’s broader vision to promote local languages and cultures of the diverse communities of North and East Syria.
