Kurdish Language Foundation publishes a print magazine to promote Kurdish literature, culture

With the aim of preserving the Kurdish language from extinction due to the cultural genocide campaigns it is subjected to by denial-minded ruling regimes, and to encourage those interested in writing in their mother tongue, particularly young people, the Kurdish Language Foundation in Aleppo is publishing a print magazine.

The initiative to publish the print magazine comes in response to a request from Kurdish teachers and students who are committed to and zealous about their mother tongue, based on their linguistic and literary knowledge of the history of the language's emergence and development.

Maram, the Print Magazine

The print magazine, published by the Kurdish Language Foundation at its headquarters in the eastern part of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo, covers various topics in the Kurdish language, including the foundations of the language's development, its literature, issues of its dissemination, and the identification of contributors to its revival.

The target audience for the print magazine includes society, intellectuals, and the youth in particular. The goal is to enhance their awareness of their history, culture, identity, and language, which is considered one of the most important pillars of preserving existence and survival.

Publication Date

The timing of the publication and distribution of the print magazine varies depending on the obstacles facing the foundation, such as the lack of necessary materials and the delays of contributors in enriching the magazine with their articles and texts by the specified deadline.

The first issue of the magazine was published in February, the second issue in March, and the third issue is still being published, pending the completion of the articles and their arrangement in the magazine's pages.

Kurdish Language Foundation member Zozan Dahar highlighted the main themes of the magazine, emphasizing that it aims to revive the culture of writing and reading in the mother tongue. She said, "In addition to providing a brief history of the language, we dedicate a section of the magazine to women's contributions to the development and dissemination of the language."

A Call to Contribute to Enriching the Magazine

Zozan Dahar called on those who are passionate about the Kurdish language to leave their mark on the magazine by submitting their manuscripts to the institution that publishes it, to diversify the ideas presented and make it more attractive to readers across society.

Zozan Dahar explained that the foundation not only publishes the magazine but also monitors its impact on readers, saying, "When distributing the magazine, we ask readers about any shortcomings in the writing and the presented ideas, and we ask for their evaluations to correct any errors and enhance future editions."

Zozan also emphasized their dedication to dedicating the last pages of the magazine to poetry, humorous stories, proverbs, and other diverse topics.
