Kurdish intellectuals: peace's path begins with achieving physical freedom's leader

This year, the eyes of the Kurds on Newroz were directed towards the historical message that was expected to be issued from Imrali, after the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) submitted a request to the Turkish Ministry of Justice for a meeting with leader Abdullah Ocalan before Newroz. Despite the historical leader's call on February 27, the Turkish state rejected the party's request and did not allow the message that leader Abdullah Ocalan would address to the Kurds and the world on the occasion of Newroz to be delivered.

Turkey fears Kurdish reactions on Newroz.

At the beginning of his speech, Azhar Ahmed, a member of the Union of Intellectuals in al-Jazira region, called for the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan and the other detainees in Turkish prisons, pointing out that Turkey, which is suffering from internal crises, was apprehensive about the potential reactions from the Kurdish people during this year's Newroz. He said, "This year's Newroz was different, as we saw in parts of Kurdistan and the entire world, the Kurds participated in the celebrations alongside other peoples, while Turkey was witnessing internal tensions following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu."

Turkish attempts to hide the leader's influence

Ahmed added that the Turkish government seeks to hide the influence of leader Abdullah Ocalan on the Kurdish people by preventing his communication with them and preventing them from knowing his health condition.

He confirmed that Turkey stands against the path of peace and democracy announced by the leader, and is also trying to distance him from his people and the peace cause he advocates.

The connection between the Kurdish people and the leader is increasing.

In the context of his speech, Ahmed pointed out that the Kurdish people's connection to the leader has increased after his historic call, considering that this year's Newroz carried within it the torch of the democratic nation and not just the spirit of Kurdish nationalism. He said, "Every oppressed person saw in Newroz a day of their freedom and embraced Ocalan's philosophy."

Ahmed added that Turkey, if it continues in its current stance, will face more pressure from the Kurds and other peoples in the region. He affirmed that leader Abdullah Ocalan has made the four parts of Kurdistan, its parties, and its people all part of the peace call, and that Turkey will face greater challenges if it continues to ignore the demands of the Kurdish people.

Turkey is still far from peace.

Suleiman explained that Turkey has not taken positive steps towards peace, as it continued its attacks on the Kurds, committing massacres against them, the latest being in Kobani. He affirmed that Turkey is not ready for peace, saying: "It was expected that this year's Newroz would be the Newroz of peace in Kurdistan and the Middle East, but the Turkish state is still far from this path."

Suleiman pointed out that leader Abdullah Ocalan could be the "Mandela of the era," just as Nelson Mandela was a symbol of peace in South Africa. He affirmed that the leader is capable of playing a positive role in establishing peace in the Middle East and resolving the Kurdish issue.
