The Kongra Star Coordination issued a written statement regarding the decision to amend the Personal Status Law in Iraq No. 188 of 1959, which stated:

"In support of the Iraqi women's struggle against amending the Personal Status Law

At a time when women's struggle around the world is escalating to achieve justice and equality, the decision of the Iraqi Council of Representatives to amend the Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959 represents a regressive step that threatens the legal and social gains of Iraqi women, and opens the door to the consecration of discrimination and inequality under a sectarian and political cover.

We at the Kongra Star believe that this amendment does not only affect Iraqi women, but also targets all the values of freedom and dignity that women represent in our societies. Passing this amendment reflects a clear bias against women and the family, threatens the future of children, and exacerbates the societal divisions that Iraq suffers from.

We affirm our full solidarity with Iraqi women in confronting this unjust amendment that aims to restrict their rights and undermine their legal and social status. We consider that this decision comes in the context of policies aimed at weakening women and reproducing the system of male dominance that women around the world seek to overcome it.

We call on all women in Iraq, and all women's and human rights organizations, to unite against this new attack on women's rights. We also appeal to the international community, especially the United Nations organizations concerned with human rights, to intervene immediately to prevent the implementation of this amendment and ensure the protection of Iraqi women from these violations.+

The struggle of Iraqi women is a voice that rises against injustice and discrimination, and a message of defiance in the face of all attempts at marginalization and exclusion. We at Kongra Star believe that women, with their unbreakable strength and unyielding will, are the backbone of any process of change that seeks to achieve justice and dignity. Together, with unwavering determination, we will continue on the path of struggle until we lay the foundations of a free society that recognizes women's rights as a fundamental pillar of freedom and humanity.
