Kobani Emergency Center offers Free 24/7 ambulance services

The Kobani Emergency Center, run by the Mesopotamia Relief and Development Association, provides free ambulance services 24 hours a day for residents of Kobani and its surrounding countryside. The center operates with a team of 24 paramedics and drivers, coordinating with hospitals and health centers to ensure a rapid response to emergencies.

Located in the village of Helinj, east of Kobani, the center officially opened on May 1. It is equipped with three ambulances carrying essential medical supplies and staffed by paramedics, drivers, and healthcare workers.

Paramedic Ziyad Abdul Ali said the center responds to emergency calls around the clock. Communication with the team is carried out via WhatsApp, allowing ambulances to be dispatched immediately after receiving a report. Paramedics accompany each ambulance, providing first aid until the patient reaches the appropriate hospital or health center.

He added that the center's services include assessing patients' conditions, determining whether medical transport is necessary, and providing first aid at homes, workplaces, or accident scenes. Services include dressing wounds, measuring blood pressure, and treating burns and accident-related injuries before patients are handed over to specialized medical staff.

Abdul Ali noted that the center handles around 10 or more cases each day, depending on the number of emergency calls received.

For her part, Hajar Kanjo, a resident of Helinj village, stressed the importance of the center, saying it provides an essential service for families without transportation and helps transfer patients—especially elderly people—to healthcare facilities when needed.

Kanjo expressed hope that the center would eventually be staffed with a general practitioner or specialist, enabling some patients to receive examinations and treatment without requiring transfer to hospitals.

The Kobani Emergency Center represents an important addition to the city's healthcare sector, particularly as demand for rapid emergency services continues to grow, especially in areas with limited transportation and difficult access to medical facilities.
