The Executive Council of the Kurdistan National Congress published a written statement on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the Halabja massacre, in which it condemned the attack carried out by Saddam’s fascist regime with chemical weapons on civilians in Halabja in 1988.

The text of the statement read: “In the attack launched with chemical weapons on the city of Halabja in Southern Kurdistan on March 16, 1988, thousands of Kurds were killed, thousands were injured, and most of them were displaced.

The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) stated that the Halabja massacre showed the whole world the depth of hostility against the Kurdish people, and said that thousands of Kurds, women, men, children and the elderly were brutally killed with chemical weapons.

He said: "This massacre was committed in front of the whole world, but no country stood against it. Rather, the United Nations, the United States, Europe and other countries remained silent about it, and did not raise their voice except when they realized that Saddam's fascist and dictatorial regime constituted a threat to their interests."

Today, the same scenario is repeated by the occupying countries. These days, the occupying countries, especially the Turkish state, and the racist dictatorial regime affiliated with the Justice and Development Party AKP and the National Movement Party, are preparing new plans to commit new massacres against the Kurdish people and are working hard to implement these plans. It is scheduled that the Iraqi central government, as well as the local government, are participating in these plans, and the forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party are also participating in these plans, which pose a great danger and threat to the four parts of Kurdistan.

Therefore, we call on all forces, parties, political organizations, social institutions, and all national groups and people of conscience to stand up to the occupation’s plans and not remain silent about them. Only in this way can we embrace the martyrs of Halabja, prevent massacres like Halabja, and protect the interests of the people of Kurdistan.

We remember the martyrs of Halabja with all our patriotic feelings, and we pledge that we will strengthen our duty for the sake of our national unity and to fight the murderous and colonial enemy.”
