According to ANF agency, KJK said in a written statement that“The duty that falls upon us is to approach the martyrs in the style of the struggle of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and to expand and strengthen the liberation struggle, and we call on all our people, especially women and youth to intensify the struggle against fascism and tyrannical colonialism in every place and time in order to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs.

The statement added: “Our liberation movement, which writes its history with its great heroes every month, every day, and every hour, declared the month of May as the month of martyrs and heroes in the person of our comrade Haqqi Qarar. We took our struggle strength and our will, which has continued to grow for 50 years, from these heroic comrades, and as Leader Abdullah Ocalan said: “ Our struggle is a struggle to be worthy of those heroic comrades who have managed to become true members of the Party by expanding their struggle.

On May 6, 1972, Deniz Kazmiş, Huseyin Inan and Yusuf Aslan said in front of the execution platform in Mamak prison: “Long live the unity of the Kurdish and Turkish peoples, the month of May is the month of escalating their struggle together against fascism and male-dominated authorities.

The assassination of our comrade Hakki, whom Leader Ocalan said was “my hidden soul,” on May 18, 1977, was the first link in the chain that made May the month of martyrs.

Ferhat Kurtay, Ashraf Anik, Mahmut Zengin and Necmi Oner, who set fire to their bodies on May 17, 1982, against the fascist state that tortured human values in Amed prison, showed great will against those who wanted to extinguish the fire, and they shouted, saying: “Whoever pours water is... Traitor, light the fire.” The four heroes wrote the month of May in history as a month of will. On May 16, the Turkish state and the Kurdistan Democratic Party  killed 83 of our comrades, 50 of whom were war-wounded, during raids in Hawler in a treacherous operation, including comrades Hevidar, Helen, Adar, Afyan, Şevin, Payam, Rosa, Rokn Qardaghi, Roshan, Khanzad Hawleri, Barkhdan Soleimani and dozens of our other comrades.

While Laila Qasim, a student at the University of Baghdad, after the Iraqi Baath regime bombed the cities of Kurdistan and killed many Kurds, she and a group of her companions were captured by the enemy, while they were preparing to take revenge for this massacre. She was executed with her four comrades on May 12, 1974.

From Europe to the mountains of Kurdistan, Hozan Mezgin showed that art and revolution are the same thing. On May 11, 1992, she resisted in the face of the fascist enemy’s calls for surrender, fighting until the last minute and detonating the bomb with her body. She declared the month of May to be the month of guerrilla warfare.

Comrade Shirin Alam Houli was captured by the Iranian regime, and she plants the seeds of freedom in the hearts of women against the Iranian regime, the enemy of women and which denies the Kurdish people, Shirin and her companions Farzad Kamanker, Ali Heydarian, and Farhad Vakili were executed on May 9, 2010, by the Iranian regime on charges of membership in the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK).

Qasim Enkin, the member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, also fully trained and educated himself in the philosophy of Leader Ocalan, on May 27, 2020, he joined the convoy of martyrs as a result of the attacks of the Turkish army.

Today, our comrades in Zap, Avasin, Metina and Khakurk, who did not give way to the occupiers and their agents, and who set fire to enemy positions are fighting as they follow in the footsteps of the struggle of the martyrs of May and write epics.

We bow in reverence to the martyrdom of these comrades, male and female, who declared the month of May to be the month of martyrs and heroes, and we renew our pledge for a free homeland and an honorable life.
