KCK to Newroz in Qandil: intensify struggle for Leader's physical freedom in 2025

The Co-Chairs of the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) sent a message to the Newroz celebration in Qandil, which was held under the slogan "With the Spirit of Newroz, Freedom for Leader Apo and Building a Democratic Society." The message stated:

"To the dear people in Qandil and all our people who have come to Newroz in Qandil with hearts beating for freedom, welcome to Newroz in Qandil. We salute you all with respect, with the warmth of the Newroz flame and the longing for freedom, and we wish you a happy Newroz. Newroz, which the Kurdish people have gifted to humanity, is one of the oldest festivals in human history. Newroz, which has become a symbol of resistance against the tyrant Zahhak, has been celebrated for thousands of years by the peoples of Mesopotamia, Iran, Anatolia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. Once again, we celebrate with you the Newroz of the peoples, women, and everyone who feels the warmth of the Newroz flame in their hearts in Mesopotamia, Iran, Anatolia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East."

The Kurdish people are the people of Newroz

Without a doubt, the people of Kurdistan are the makers of Newroz, and they live the warmth of Newroz deep in their hearts. Tyrants have attempted to destroy the Kurdish people many times throughout history, but each time, the Kurdish people have resisted and preserved their existence through Newroz. That is why Newroz has become a symbol of unity, solidarity, and freedom for the Kurdish people. The Kurdish people have created and liberated themselves through Newroz. That is why Leader Apo says: ‘The Kurdish people are the people of Newroz. As long as Newroz exists, this people will not disappear.’ This is a confirmed historical truth. Once again, we congratulate the resilient Kurdish people on Newroz through your presence."

"Today, historic figures and moments have emerged that have revived the spirit of Newroz and continue to this day. Leader Apo laid the foundation for the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Newroz Day. Kawa of this era emerged on Newroz Day and developed the historical process against the oppressive Zahhaks who sought to destroy the Kurdish people. With a small spark, he dispelled the darkness and restored Newroz to its historical essence. For this reason, Mazlum Doğan became the Kawa of this era in the history of Kurdistan. The spark ignited by Kawa of the era, Mazlum Dogan, 43 years ago, has now intensified and flared up, lighting the path for millions of people. As we celebrate this beautiful and important day, we must not forget our martyrs who set themselves on fire and united with the Newroz flame, carrying the flame of Newroz's freedom to this day. With these feelings, we remember Mazlum Dogan and his comrades Zakiyya, Rahshan, Ronahi, Berivan, and all the martyrs of the revolution and democracy, and we extend our respect to them."

"The struggle of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which began with the spirit of Newroz, has been the foundation for the unity of the Kurdish people. The participation of the people of South Kurdistan in the struggle for freedom has played a major role in this. The sons of South Kurdistan, such as Dr. Sirwan, Diyar Gharib (Helmut), Viyan Soran, Professor Shamal, Raouf Akri, Ali Shaaban Amedi, Sadiq Omar, and thousands of heroic martyrs, have become fundamental pillars of the struggle for Kurdistan’s freedom and national unity. We must honor their memory and live by it."

A democratic society is the solution to crises

"This year, Leader Apo's call for peace and a democratic society has given Newroz a new meaning. We see that the Kurdish people, with the strength and morale gained from Leader Apo’s call, are celebrating Newroz with great enthusiasm and excitement everywhere. The call for peace and a democratic society is a historic call. It is the manifesto of freedom in this era. Through this call, Leader Apo has opened a new horizon for the Kurdish people, the Middle East, and humanity. The freedom of peoples, women, and life itself can only be achieved by reaching Leader Apo’s vision. The way out of war, oppression, exploitation, chaos, and the crisis of capitalist modernity is a democratic society. Here, with your presence, we send our love, respect, and greetings to Leader Apo, who has led our struggle for more than 50 years and has recently created a new horizon for us with his call. We congratulate him on Newroz."

"Our people can no longer endure the physical imprisonment of Leader Apo. The system of torture in Imrali must end. Imrali must be destroyed, and Leader Apo must be released immediately. For this reason, we must escalate the struggle everywhere and express this desire more than ever before. Let us make 2025 the year of Leader Apo’s physical freedom. On this basis, with the feeling and faith in freedom, we salute you with all respect and wish you a happy Newroz.
