Three fighters from the Shengal Resistance Units were injured, including one in critical condition, and five others were captured during an attack carried out by the Iraqi army on the night of March 18. The attack targeted a vehicle belonging to the units in the Yarmouk area of Shengal district. The Iraqi army also sent reinforcements in anticipation of a potential uprising and imposed restrictions on entry and exit from Shengal.

In protest against this attack, the residents of Shengal, including youth and women, organized massive demonstrations. The  protesters demanded the withdrawal of Iraqi forces from the district. As a result, the Iraqi army was forced to engage in dialogue with representatives of the Autonomous Administration of Shengal and the Shengal Resistance Units, according to Roj News Agency.

According to the agency, Iraqi forces were withdrawn from the center of Shengal last night after the conclusion of the meeting with the Autonomous Administration representatives. In return, the protests that had been taking place in front of the Iraqi intelligence center were dispersed.

For its part, the Autonomous Administration of Shengal confirmed that dialogue with the Iraqi army is still ongoing until the captured fighters from the Shengal Resistance Units are released. A statement from the Autonomous Administration of Shengal regarding the recent events is expected soon.
