The co-chairs of the KCK Executive Council issued a statement to mark the new year and reflect on the global military and political developments over the past year, as well as the recent meeting between the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party and leader Ocalan. The statement reads:

“Humanity and our people are entering a new year. Over the past year, the Third World War continued across the world, our region, and our country, intensifying and causing significant loss of life and injuries. It expanded into new areas, affecting humanity as a whole. Hunger, thirst, lack of access to healthcare, poverty, unemployment, and deteriorating living conditions became increasingly widespread.

The development of colonial practices in Kurdistan

The murderous Turkish occupation state exploited the conditions of the Third World War as an opportunity, leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to eliminate the struggle for Kurdistan’s freedom. It maintained the isolation of leader Abdullah Ocalan, continued using chemical weapons against guerrilla fighters, and carried out illegal practices, including the harshest forms of torture against prisoners of freedom in prisons, disregarding international legal standards.

Repression against women persisted unabated, with massacres, arrests, and rape becoming commonplace. Particularly striking was the appointment of trustees in many elected municipalities, a colonial practice reflecting extreme hostility toward the Kurdish people’s right to live with their identity and free will. Developments in Syria led to the displacement of over 100,000 of our people, with women and children subjected to massacres as part of the genocide campaign against the Kurdish people in NE Syria by the National Army mercenaries backed by the fascist Turkish state.

The attacks targeting our people and the Kurdistan Freedom Movement primarily aim to break the will to resist, as well as the hope and belief in a free life. However, the resistance demonstrated by leader Abdullah Ocalan under severe isolation, along with the heroic resistance of Kurdistan Freedom Movement fighters against all types of prohibited weapons and the most advanced Turkish military technologies, thwarted the fascist government’s plans. We honor and express our gratitude to the freedom fighters who were martyred in this resistance and across Kurdistan, reaffirming our commitment to upholding their memory by escalating the struggle and ensuring victory.

The resistance of our people, workers and women, under the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom” prevented the colonial fascist government from achieving its goals. In particular, the campaign “Freedom for Leader Apo, Political Solution to the Kurdish Cause,” launched by the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, our people, and global allies, transcended Kurdistan’s borders and became a global cause, playing a significant role in dispelling the imposed darkness and opening up vast horizons of freedom.

A delegation from the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party met with leader Abdullah Ocalan on December 28 in Imrali. This meeting was a result of leader Ocalan’s stance in Imrali and the resistance of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, our people, and our global friends. During this meeting, the leader once again presented his broad, positive views and solutions with historical responsibility in confronting imposed darkness. Alongside addressing the Kurdish issue, establishing democracy in Turkey, and resolving Middle Eastern problems, leader Ocalan demonstrated strong belief and determination that achieving just global peace is an urgent task, creating new horizons for freedom, hope, and belief for people, movements, workers, women, and all faiths and cultures. His perspectives on problem-solving, summarized in seven points, outline the tasks we must undertake and enable us, as a movement and people, to approach the coming year with greater hope.

As the movement of the people and freedom, we affirm that our leader’s views, serving as a manifesto in the final days of 2024, will be the compass guiding our struggle in the new year. We call on our people, all our friends, and all political parties and democratic mass organizations supporting the resolution of the Kurdish question and the establishment of democracy in Turkey to join the struggle on this basis. With the belief that the new year will see the physical freedom of leader Apo, the resolution of the Kurdish issue, the establishment of democracy in Turkey and the region, and the spread of peace and stability across the region and the world, we extend our new year’s greetings to leader Abdullah Ocalan, all comrades, women, workers, and freedom fighters.”
