Duran Kalkan, a member of the PKK Executive Committee, spoke at what was described as the historic 12th Congress of the party, highlighting the role of Imrali Delegation member Sirri Sureyya Onder.

Sirri Sureyya Onder, a member of the Imrali Delegation and a parliamentarian from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM), passed away on May 3 after spending 18 days in the hospital receiving treatment. He was known as the "martyr of peace and democracy," having dedicated his life to seeking both.

Duran Kalkan emphasized: "Sirri Sureyya Onder was one of the people who worked closely with Leader Apo. He was his official spokesperson and represented the delegation in meetings with Leader Apo, making him one of the most influential figures. He made a significant contribution to our congress."

"Our revolutionary socialist comrade,Sirri Sureyya Onder, the heroic son of the Turkish people, was one of the strongest supporters of Leader Apo’s work and one of his most loyal comrades. He was truly a sincere friend and companion. From the moment of mourning, starting in the hospital and through the news we received, his deep connection with the people became evident."

"He was greatly influenced by Leader Apo. We have read the statement by Leader Apo regarding his martyrdom, and through it, we can understand how much he affected Leader Apo. It was a profound and meaningful statement, full of emotion."

"Together with Leader Apo, he was one of those who worked hard to lay the foundation for such efforts and to create this atmosphere. He was their spokesperson and represented the delegation in meetings with Leader Apo. For this reason, he was the most influential person and made the greatest contribution to our congress."

"The decisions we make at this congress will greatly help realize Sirri Sureyya Onder's goals, dreams, and aspirations. They will lead the country to victory. We must fulfill these dreams and goals laid out by Leader Apo. This will be the best response to his words and his call, and we believe in this."

"In addition, there are two other important topics to address, such as the question: 'What should the socialist personality be like?' We see it reflected in the leadership line, and in the qualities of Leader Apo. Leader Apo also said that one of the best people to embody this was Sirri Sureyya Onder. There is much we can learn from that."

"In seeking the answer to 'What should the socialist personality be like?' we can gain important insights by exploring the truth behind Sirri Sureyya Onder. Of course, we should not pass ultimate judgment, but it is Leader Apo who ultimately defined socialism in a democratic society. When we try to answer the question 'What should socialist representation in a democratic society be like?' we certainly turn to Leader Apo and the qualities of the martyrs as our foundation. There are many lessons to be learned from the personality of Sirri Sureyya Onder."

"This kind of influence, this unique quality... it wasn't about duty. Yes, he was a member of parliament and a deputy speaker, but his impact on society didn’t come from those roles. He never moved society with those titles. He did so through his socialist personality. At that time, Leader Apo was waging a great struggle for thirty years with a socialist vision to eliminate overly bureaucratic, cold, complex, entangled, and obstructive personalities."

"Significant developments occurred in Sirri Sureyya Onder's personality in this regard during his relationship with Leader Apo. How can one be a multi-faceted socialist? How can one influence everyone? How can this be achieved? How can one feel, sense, laugh, and be happy? He answered all these questions by demonstrating how to create certain things not through duty, but through art. The success of our congress will serve as the fundamental contribution of our party to the martyrdom of Sirri Sureyya Onder, and we believe in this."

"On this basis, we remember him once again with respect and gratitude."
