ANHA correspondent in Sweida reported hearing explosions in the early hours of this morning, before the National Guard announced that unidentified individuals had carried out an attack targeting Basil Abu Fakhr, Director of the Military Judiciary Department in the governorate.

In a statement, the command said the attack took place at around 2:00 a.m., when unknown assailants threw two hand grenades toward Judge Basil Abu Fakhr's office while he was inside.

The statement added that one grenade exploded behind an annex of the office, while the second landed behind the building without detonating. It confirmed that the incident caused only material damage and resulted in no injuries.

The National Guard Command said the attack on the Director of the Military Judiciary Department came amid what it described as attempts to pressure the judicial institution over its handling of what it called "sensitive cases." It added that the attack was part of efforts to intimidate and disrupt the work of the judicial and military authorities.

The statement also linked the incident to what it described as a "disinformation campaign" following a traffic accident involving the Deputy Commander of the National Guard two days earlier, after rumors circulated claiming he had survived an assassination attempt. The command stressed that the incident was merely a routine traffic accident.

The National Guard Command confirmed that the competent authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, emphasizing that targeting officials or state institutions will not affect the work of the judicial, military, and security bodies. It added that those responsible for the attack will be pursued and brought to justice in order to preserve security and stability in Sweida.
