Journalists condemn assassination of Jihan Belkin, Nazim Dashtan by Turkish state

A Turkish occupation drone targeted a car carrying journalists Nazim Dashtan and Jehan Belkin, on December 19, on the road between Tishrin Dam and the town of Sarrin, in the southern part of the city of Kobani.

 The targeting led to the martyrdom of both the journalists and the injury of the driver.

 The Free Media Union Foundation and the Women's Media Union condemned the attack, calling on all journalists to gather in front of the "Mohammed Sheikho" Center for Culture and Art.

A series of condemnations followed the attack, and several unions and media institutions, including the International Federation of Journalists, issued statements condemning the Turkish attack on journalists.

 "This is not the first time we condemn the Turkish occupation's targeting of journalists, it does so constantly," the correspondent of the Women's Channel, Jiyan Khalil said.

 Khalil indicated that the Turkish occupation state seeks to obscure the facts by targeting journalists and media professionals.

"The goal of the Turkish state is to kill the journalists seeking to reveal the facts," Khalil added.

 In turn, Rojava TV correspondent Serkaft Hussein appreciated the role of the free media in publishing the facts and exposing the practices and violations of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.

Hussein denounced the Turkish occupation's targeting of journalists and media professionals who work to show the resistance of the fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces on the battlefronts.

 "All free media workers will shoulder the responsibility of following the martyrs' line, and will devote all their time to that," Hussein added.

 "Journalists Nazim Dashtan and Jehan Belkin showed their strength within the line of free press, and on all fields and fronts,"

The Co-chair of the media office of the Syrian Democratic Council, Shira Osi said.

  Osi concluded by saying "The Turkish state seeks to obscure the truth by targeting journalists, but it will not be able to dissuade our determination no matter what it does."
