Journalist Mirella Abu Shannab was assaulted while covering protests held in Youssef al-Azmeh Square in central Damascus, during a sit-in titled “Law and Dignity,” which called for economic and living reforms.

ANHA correspondent in Damascus reported that Abu Shannab was attacked while documenting the demonstration. The assault involved knocking her mobile phone to the ground and preventing her from livestreaming the event. 

The perpetrators were described as either “harassers” or “security personnel,” during a protest gathering that witnessed heightened tensions in the vicinity of the square.

Residents had taken to Youssef al-Azmeh Square in central Damascus to demand improvements in living and economic conditions. The protest was marked by attempts to attack demonstrators by individuals loyal to the interim government. The situation in the square remains tense, with a number of civilians reported injured.
