Nine civilians, including critical cases, were injured during their participation in the “Law and Dignity” sit-in in Youssef al-Azmeh Square in central Damascus, following tensions and on-the-ground developments in the area.

Youssef al-Azmeh Square in the Syrian capital, Damascus, witnessed a popular protest today demanding improvements in living and economic conditions. The protest was accompanied by tensions that led to the injury of several civilians.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that nine civilians were injured, including critical cases, during the gathering in which participants raised slogans calling for the implementation of the rule of law and better living conditions.

The SOHR added that a group of individuals stormed the vicinity of the sit-in and attempted to disperse participants through chants, verbal and physical assaults, and by preventing filming. This led to a state of chaos and panic at the scene, resulting in the injury of several civilians.

It noted that General Security forces were present in the area during the incident, without clarifying the nature of the measures taken to contain the tension.
