Jordanian Foreign Minister: Refugee issue can only be resolved by their return to their country
The Jordanian Foreign Minister called for working to end the Syrian crisis on foundations that it guarantees the unity of Syria, and to create conditions that guarantee the voluntary return of refugees, considering the issue of the return of refugees to their country a priority for his country.
During his meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati, today in Cairo, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi considered that his country is working to end the Syrian crisis on the basis that guarantees Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and independence, rids it of terrorism, and creates conditions that guarantee the voluntary return of refugees.
He pointed out that the issue of the return of refugees to their country is a priority for them, because the solution to the refugee issue can only be achieved by their return to their country.
In this context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees revealed that the majority of Syrian refugees in Jordan do not intend to return to Syria in the coming years.
It said that she conducted “the ninth regional survey on the perceptions and intentions of Syrian refugees regarding returning to Syria from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon,” and it showed that 97% of Syrian refugees in Jordan answered that they would not return to Syria during the next year.
It explained that the percentage refusing to return is constantly increasing compared to 2017, when the survey showed that only 73% did not intend to return.
