According to the newspaper Israel Hayom, Hanegbi disclosed during a closed session of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that direct talks are being held between Israel and the Syrian transitional government, bypassing the previously known indirect channels.

Hanegbi stated that he himself is conducting this dialogue with Syrian political figures on behalf of the Israeli government, including coordination on both security and political matters.

He confirmed that both Syria and Lebanon are candidates to join the Abraham Accords for normalization with Israel.

He pointed out that there is daily dialogue at all levels between Israel and Syria, noting that this dialogue includes shared concerns such as the Iranian threat.

When asked about the possibility of Israel withdrawing from the separation zone in the Golan, he responded: “If normalization takes place, we will consider it.”
