On Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Council issued a public statement on the 10th anniversary of the Kobani massacre, in which ISIS mercenaries brutally attacked Kurdish civilians in 2015. The Council renewed its commitment to continue the struggle against all forms of "terrorism and extremism" and to defend the values of justice and coexistence in Syria.

The statement recalled one of "the most atrocious crimes targeting human existence in Syria," when ISIS mercenaries infiltrated residential neighborhoods in Kobani and carried out a bloody assault on civilians, resulting in the martyrdom of hundreds, including children, women, and the elderly.

The statement emphasized that "the resistance of Kobani marked a decisive turning point in the war against terrorism," describing the city as "the first geographic area in the region to stand firm and triumph over the machinery of violence and extremism," at a time when other cities fell with little to no resistance. It added, "The name Kobani has become synonymous with resilience, a living symbol of a tragedy transformed into a spirit of resistance that inspired the entire world."

The statement also referenced the continued threat posed by ISIS, pointing to the "tragic massacre that occurred just days ago inside the Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus," where extremists targeted worshippers during religious services. It stated that "the same mindset" behind the Kobani massacre is responsible for such crimes, “a mindset that desecrates humanity in the name of hatred and legitimizes bloodshed in the name of religion.”

The Council called for a "mobilization of national and international will to continue the fight against all forms of terrorism," stressing that "the extremist organization has not been entirely defeated, and its sleeper cells and financiers still pose a real threat to the safety and future of Syrians."

The statement concluded by reaffirming the commitment to building a democratic and secure Syria, free from tyranny and violence, saying: “We renew our pledge to our people and all Syrian communities that we will continue to struggle for a homeland that upholds human dignity and guarantees the right to live without fear, without violence, and without terrorism.”
