On February 27, Leader Abdullah Ocalan made a historic call, calling for peace, after which the Kurdistan Workers' Party announced a ceasefire and its support for the peace process.

The Iraqi writer and journalist Shamkhi Jabr praised the struggle of the Kurdish people, and said: "Greetings to the great struggle of the Kurdish people, glory and immortality to the martyrs of the great Kurdish nation, we greatly appreciate the thesis of the historical leader of the Kurdish nation, the fighter Abdullah Ocalan, in which he emphasized the moment of peace and the cessation of military action."

Shamkhi Jabr asked: "What will the Turkish government offer in response to this great initiative? Peace must be for the Kurdish and Turkish peoples, not just for the Turks. The struggles of the Kurdish nation must not go to waste, as it has offered hundreds, even thousands of martyrs on the path to freedom, dignity, and national cultural and political rights."

Jabr added: "We Arabs follow the struggle of our Kurdish brothers with the utmost admiration, respect, praise, and moral support. Therefore, we see that this epic struggle made by the Kurds and the initiative of their historical leader must be met by the Turkish government in a way that reassures the Kurds and makes them deal with it positively; perhaps national rights come first."

Shamkhi Jabr stressed that the initiative launched by Leader Abdullah Ocalan will have repercussions on the entire region in spreading peace and development, if Turkey and its government deal with it in a positive spirit
