Iraqi refugees: International community should support al-Hol camp

 After ISIS mercenaries took control of large areas of Iraq and committed hundreds of massacres against the Iraqi people, thousands of Iraqi families resorted to NE Syria region, as Autonomous Administration has allocated the camp to be a shelter for them.

Although some families return to Iraq, thousands are still in the camp, but some are afraid of returning due to bad treatment, lack of support and tribal problems.

Ihab Khalil, from the Iraqi Ramadi area, confirmed that the Iraqi refugees wish to return to their homeland.

"Can the government of Iraq solve our problems?" he said.

 Khalil pointed out that "there are tribal problems in Iraq, and there is fear of revenge cases, in addition to the presence of ISIS mercenary cells in Syria and Iraq."

 Ali Saad, one of the Iraqi refugees in the camp called on the international community to provide more support to them.

 "There are deficiencies in terms of health and children's education ."

 In turn, Zainab Al -Jabri from the Iraqi city of Basra noted that the international community doesn't solve their problem, whether by returning to their homeland and ensuring a safe return, or by providing support to Autonomous Administration to address the deficiencies they face in the camp, such as health and food.

 Some international organizations provide limited support for the residents of the  camp, but those in charge of the camp see this support insufficient, given the presence of about 40,000 people between the families of ISIS mercenaries, the displaced and refugees.

Furthermore, the Iraqi government does not fulfill its duty, although it recently launched in cooperation with international international organizations a program to settle the conditions of thousands of Iraqis returning from the camp to their original areas.

It also issued an initiative to conduct community reconciliation and reintegrate refugees into the cities which ISIS took control between 2014 And 2017.

 The United Nations Development Program in Iraq, the American and Swedish agencies for international development, and the European Union in cooperation with the government of Iraq, announced the launch of the "Road to the homeland: societal reconciliation and the reintegration of Iraqis returning from the al-Hol camp in Syria."
