Iraqi President welcomes decision of Kurdistan Workers' Party Congress

The Iraqi president said in a statement: "We express our support for the decision of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Congress to choose a peaceful, democratic path to end the armed conflict."

He added: "We welcome this decision, as it is a positive step toward establishing security and stability in the region, opening a new page toward genuine and constructive dialogue, and creating a conducive environment for achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace that will bring an end to decades of conflict, tragedies, and suffering, and usher in an important phase of political, diplomatic, and parliamentary action."

He continued: “As we have previously emphasized and will emphasize again, the only way to resolve problems and conflicts is to sit at the table of dialogue and understanding. Therefore, we affirm our support for all peace efforts aimed at stopping the bloodshed and coexisting, while consolidating democracy, guaranteeing the rights of all, and working together to achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the region to build positive and solid relations based on mutual respect and common interests, protecting sovereignty, and enhancing security, stability, and prosperity for our peoples.”
