Iraqi analyst praises PKK move, calls on Turkey to promote democracy

On May 12, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announced the results of its 12th congress, which took place from May 5-7, by ending all activities carried out in its name and shifting from armed struggle to political struggle.

Commenting on the issue, Iraqi political analyst Najm al-Qassab said, "The PKK wants to work politically, achieve social and economic stability, and stay away from engaging in battles, strikes and fighting, because the results of these conflicts represent a loss not only for the PKK, but also for the Kurdish people and other peoples."

Najm al-Qassab emphasized: "This position has embarrassed some countries and governments that were counting on categorizing the PKK as a terrorist and murderous organization, but in fact, this is a positive step in favor of those who took this decision."

"The Turkish government should consider this step as a good initiative and a start towards serious negotiations, without imposing conditions on the PKK," he said.

Al-Qassab emphasized: "No one can defeat or break the PKK, because it has long military experience and has been stationed in the mountains and plains for years, and this is an undeniable fact."
