Iranian authorities deny Evin prison detained activist health care

The Iranian authorities continue their abusive policies against political prisoners detained in Evin prison in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Recently, Iranian authorities denied health and medical care to politician and women's rights activist Hora Nekbakht, who is detained in Iran's Evin prison, Iranian media reported.

Hora Nekbakht was transferred to the prison clinic on August 8, after she suffered a state of tremors in the body, loss of speech and severe physical distress, and doctors warned that she is at risk of stroke, and stressed that any stress or simple anxiety can lead to a stroke.

Despite her urgent need for medical and specialist treatment, she was returned to prison by Friday (9 August) and denied treatment.

Hora Nekbakht, a politician and women's activist, the publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine Mashq Barbari, which focuses on gender equality, and she is also a university lecturer and prominent women's rights activist in Iran.

She was arrested on June 12, 2024, after appearing before the third branch of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Tehran's Area 33.

Her trial was held on 11 July 2024, at the same branch. In early August 2024, Branch 26 of Tehran's Revolutionary Court sentenced her to one year in prison for "propaganda against the state" and "insulting the Supreme Leader".
