Iranian authorities arrest Kurdish journalist
Iranian authorities have arrested Kurdish journalist Fardin Mostafaei from the city of Saqqez in E. Kurdistan, with his fate remains unknown.
Media outlets in E. Kurdistan reported that Iranian authorities detained Kurdish journalist and member of the International Federation of Journalists, Fardin Mostafaei, from Saqqez.
His fate remains unknown.
This arrest comes as Iranian authorities have launched a widespread crackdown coinciding with the second anniversary of the death of Kurdish young woman Jina Amini (22 years old) from Saqqez. She was killed by the Iranian morality police in mid-September 2022, allegedly for not adhering to hijab regulations. The recent crackdown has targeted dozens of people, particularly activists working in the field of women's rights.
Earlier this month, Human Rights Watch reported that the Iranian regime continues its pattern of arrests, having detained dozens of citizens. Additionally, detainees have been threatened with execution, and human rights violations in Iran persist, including the suppression and execution of activists.
