Bakhshan Azizi, who is imprisoned in Evin Prison in Tehran and sentenced to death, stated that prison authorities have prevented her from seeing a specialist doctor.

In a post on her Instagram account on Sunday, Azizi wrote that she suffers from severe headaches. Despite her family covering all medical expenses and previously arranging her medical tests, she was denied the chance to visit a doctor.

Azizi is a women’s rights activist and a Kurdish citizen from Mahabad in E. Kurdistan. She holds a degree in social work from Allameh Tabataba'i University in Tehran.

Iranian authorities arrested Bakhshan Azizi on August 13, 2023, and transferred her to Evin Prison, where she was denied her right to legal counsel. After four months of interrogation, she was transferred to the women’s wing of the prison and sentenced to death on July 23 for "rebellion and membership in opposition groups against the regime." Numerous women’s rights movements have called for her immediate release, but the Iranian government has ignored these appeals.
