Iraq, Jordan stress on need of foreign forces in Syria withdrawal

Both the Iraqi Foreign Minister and the Jordanian Foreign Minister stressed the need for the withdrawal of illegal foreign forces from Syrian territory and the need to activate efforts to end the crisis.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stressed during their meeting yesterday, on the sidelines of their participation in the work of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, separately, the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, "the need for the withdrawal of illegal foreign forces from Syrian territory, the start of reconstruction work, and the need to activate efforts aimed at ending the Syrian crisis and addressing all its consequences."

Araqchi reiterated his country's support for UN efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria, according to a Damascus government agency.

Araqchi addressed developments in Syria and ways to reach a political solution there, stressing "the need for the withdrawal of illegal foreign forces from Syrian territory and the start of reconstruction work as soon as possible."

Pedersen also discussed with the Jordanian foreign minister, according to the website "Khaberni", efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Safadi stressed "the need to activate efforts aimed at ending the Syrian crisis, and addressing all its consequences in a way that guarantees Syria's unity, cohesion and sovereignty, restores security and safety and creates conditions for the voluntary return of refugees."
