Today, the International Union of Arab Journalism issued a statement coinciding with the approach of the international conspiracy against Leader Abdullah Ocalan, which falls on February 15.

The statement was read by Hassan Zaza, Vice President of the International Union of Arab Journalism in Syria and a member of the Free Media Union, in the presence of members of the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, as well as journalists.

The Union’s statement noted that on October 10, 2023, a wide international campaign was launched under the slogan “Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, the Political Solution to the Kurdish Issue,” with the participation of representatives from labor unions, political parties, and social organizations, alongside prominent philosophers and Nobel Prize-winning thinkers from various continents. The campaign began in 74 cities worldwide before expanding to most countries, as part of an international effort to shed light on the case of the thinker Abdullah Ocalan and call for his release.

The statement highlighted: “The International Union of Arab Journalism officially joined the campaign,” confirming its full support for its demands and urging the relevant authorities to respond to the calls and achieve the desired outcomes.

The Union pointed out that Leader Abdullah Ocalan represents the political will of tens of millions of Kurds, in addition to broad segments of peoples who see in his ideas and political philosophy proposals for solutions to issues facing oppressed peoples and multiethnic, multireligious, and multicultural societies. His ideas on democracy and coexistence provide a foundation for addressing regional crises, particularly in the Middle East.

The Union believes that the Kurdish issue has acquired international dimensions and that addressing it requires a comprehensive political approach. Securing the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan would enable his participation in a political process that contributes to a lasting peaceful solution in Turkey and the broader region. It also emphasized that ending the isolation imposed on him is a crucial step to revive dialogue and enhance the prospects for peace.

The Union concluded its statement by appealing to international organizations and civil society institutions to support efforts to end the isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan and work toward his release, noting that achieving this could represent an important gateway to addressing the Kurdish issue and enhancing stability in the region.
