In its 20th year, Kongra Star continues to complete its mission to liberate women

(January 15) marks the 19th anniversary of the Kongra Star, which has worked since its founding in 2005 under the name (Star Union) to organize and train women in all fields in accordance with the ideology of women’s liberation.

Last year (2023), the Kongra Star held, in conjunction with the anniversary of its founding, its ninth conference in the city of al-Hasakah under the slogan, “With the tireless struggle for the women’s revolution, the uprising will prevail.” It resulted in a package of decisions that would raise the pace of the conference’s activity and increase networking among women from all over the world. All components, whether within North and EastSyria or outside it.

In order to search for a job for Kongra Star during a year, ANHA agency met with a member of the Kongra Star coordination and former spokeswoman for Kongra Star, Ramzia Mohammad, who congratulated the 19th anniversary of the founding of Kongra Star, and recalled all the pioneers of the women’s revolution who struggled to liberate women and society and change the prevailing male mentality in society.

Ramzia Mohammad drew attention to the work of Kongra Star after holding its ninth conference, and said: “We have worked intensively and extensively to implement the decisions issued by our conference.”

In terms of awareness

As for his most prominent work at the organizational level during the year (2023), and based on the fact that protection is everyone’s responsibility in light of the emergency situations that the region is going through, the Kongra Star Training Committee opened training courses to enhance awareness among women within the framework of the People’s Revolutionary War, in addition to holding a series of educational, awareness-raising, historical and scientific lectures attended by various segments of society.

In addition to the opening of training courses for men and women, the total number of open courses reached 396 courses, with 4,610 people joining in Qamishlo only, while the number of open training courses for women reached 109 courses, with 1,560 women joining, and 265 women joined 22 closed courses, as for the open training courses for men. There were 14 sessions with 285 men joining, and the closed sessions numbered 5 with 84 men joining, according to what was revealed by coordination member Ramzia Mohammad.

While the number of lectures delivered at the level of the North and East Syria region reached 3,975 lectures, with 38,662 people joining.

The case of Leader Abdullah Ocalan

Kongra Star also announced during its conference the formation of 4 new committees: (Committee on the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, Committee on Free Equality of Life, Committee on Intrinsic Protection, and Discipline Committee). It also changed the name of the Committee on Democratic Relations and Agreements to become the Committee on Democratic Relations, Agreements and Politics.

Ramzia Mohammad began mentioning the work of these four committees, saying: “Women organized themselves within the Essential Protection Committee in an institutional and expanded manner in all North and East Syria within the neighborhood councils, towns, districts, and communes, to be able to respond to the attacks and policies to which women are exposed, within the policy of and a unified plan.

Ramzia added: “The Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan Committee held many dialogue seminars, via Zoom, lectures, marches, and conferences, in order to break the absolute isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and increase networking with human rights figures to rally around the issue of Leader Abdullah Ocalan.” and intensify the legal and intellectual struggle to liberate him physically.”

In the context of the global campaign (Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, the political solution to the Kurdish issue), which was launched in 74 centers around the world on December 10, 2023, the Women’s Environmental Platform in Rojava, affiliated with Kongra Star, launched on January 8 of this year a campaign to reveal the status of the leader. Abdullah Ocalan It began on the 9th of the same month and will continue until April 4. Ramzia said about the campaign: “It is the first step in our work for the year 2024. The issue of Leader Abdullah Ocalan is one of the priorities of our work.”

Diplomatically

Diplomatically, Ramzia Mohammad indicated that Kongra Star sought to communicate with all women after holding their conference, whether inside or outside Syria and with women’s figures and organizations in the Middle East.

Kongra Star also participated in the events organized in the Middle East, such as the regional women’s conference held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut (August 18/19), and in the dialogue forum held under the slogan “Together for a Democratic Middle East - The Path to Peace” in Lebanon, and in The International Women's March, which was organized in Tunisia, and in the conference held in North Africa, in addition to his extensive visits to institutions and responsible authorities in Europe.

Kongra Star also received, in its centers in Rojava, many delegations from the Middle East and Europe, to get a closer look at the reality of women’s organizing in the region.

Ramzia Mohammad touched on the situation of women in the occupied Syrian regions, and said: “The Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries are pursuing a special policy against women. The occupied regions are a clear example of the control of the patriarchal regime, as women in those regions are exposed to all forms of physical and psychological violence, the latest of which was the imposition of unjust provisions.” against women kidnapped by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.”

She called on women in the occupied Syrian regions to organize their ranks, even secretly, and to raise their voices abroad in order to stand up to the crimes and violations of the Turkish occupation, and to find a mechanism to protect themselves from the genocidal attacks to which they are exposed there.

Kongra Star plans for 2024

Ramzia Mohammad mentioned the most important projects that Kongra Star will accomplish during the year 2024, (such as preparing to build model villages for women, opening academies and projects to empower women economically, culturally, and socially, holding a conference by the Committee to Protect Leader Abdullah Ocalan, opening reading offices for women, and opening a women’s garden. Free in the name of the young Kurdish woman, Gina Amini, and planting fruit trees in gardens and private lands for Kongra Star and distributing their produce to women and society).

At the conclusion of her speech, Ramzia Mohammad, a member of the Kongra Star Coordination Committee, renewed her pledge to continue and escalate the struggle against the fascist forces opposed to the women’s issue, and stressed that they will avenge the female martyrs and martyrs until they achieve victory.
