Impending protest in occupied Iskenderun in solidarity with Syrian components

Alawite and civil organizations in occupied Iskenderun have announced the organization of a protest event at the Yayladağı border crossing, located in Iskenderun and opposite the town of Kassab in the countryside of Latakia, northwestern Syria. The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 14:00.

The organizing bodies stated that the protest comes in solidarity with Alawites and other Syrian components and sects, and in rejection of what they described as the policies of the transitional government in Syria and its forces, which "target Alawites and other Syrian communities through sectarian violence and exclusionary policies."

According to invitation cards circulated by activists, the event aims to "raise a voice against war and sectarian hate speech," and to draw attention to what the organizing bodies consider serious violations affecting the right to life, belief, and identity. They affirmed their continued struggle for equality, peace, and freedom for all Syrians without exception.

The invitation concluded with the names of the organizing institutions and organizations: "The Union of Alawite Bektashis, the Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association, Alawite Culture Associations, the Hacı Bektaş Veli Cultural Foundation, the Alawite Democratic Association, in addition to Alawite institutions and platforms in Adana, Mersin, Samandağ, and Antakya."

This call comes after cities in the Syrian interior and coast witnessed security clashes and tensions, and arrest campaigns against protesters opposing the authority of the transitional government in Syria.
