Hundreds of women march in support of YPJ

Women and young women from the cities of Zirkan and Tell Tamer, along with members of women's organizations and female representatives of political parties, marched in support of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) and their demands for official recognition.

The march was part of the "We Are All YPJ, YPJ Represents Us" campaign, launched by the Joint Events Platform of Women's Movements and Organizations in Rojava on April 26th.

The participants in the march, which began in front of the Women's Bakery in Zirkan, carried banners with the campaign slogan written on and shouted chants calling for the recognition of the YPJ, as well as the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom." Upon reaching the mosque square, the women held a minute of silence in honor of the male and female martyrs.

During the march, a statement was read in both Kurdish and Arabic by the Kongra Star members Mila Mano in Kurdish and Silva Ahmed in Arabic. The statement emphasized the need for fair and equitable recognition of all forces that have contributed to protecting society and defending its dignity, foremost among them the Women's Protection Units (YPJ).

The statement affirmed that the YPJ, through its struggle and immense sacrifices, has demonstrated its pivotal role in confronting terrorism, defending the land, and preserving human dignity without discrimination or exclusion. It clarified that the YPJ's role is not limited to the military aspect alone, but also encompasses a humanitarian and social project that promotes the values of freedom, equality, and women's rights.

The statement emphasized that any new Syrian constitution cannot be just and inclusive without the official recognition of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) as part of the national defense system, guaranteeing women's representation and effective participation in state institutions; the Ministry of Defense, enshrining the principles of equality and women's rights in clear and binding constitutional provisions, and protecting the gains women have achieved by virtue of the struggle of these forces.

The statement mentioned that excluding this force or ignoring its role constitutes an injustice to a history of sacrifices and weakens the foundations for building a democratic state based on justice and participation.

The statement called upon all political entities, civil society organizations, and international bodies to support this legitimate demand and work towards a constitution that reflects the reality of diversity, safeguards the rights of all components of the population, and recognizes the role of women as essential partners in building the future.

The march concluded with the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom."
