Nadine Maenza, former Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and current President of the Global Engagement Institute (GEI), said in a post on the “X” platform that members of Congress and U.S. officials she met this week showed “deep concern, and some anger” over the actions of the interim government and what she described as its betrayal of Congress’s good faith in lifting Caesar Act sanctions.

Maenza added that “avoiding the imposition of new sanctions is only possible if the Syrian government stops immediately and begins dialogue to implement the March 10 agreement.”
