Hasaka emergency committee continues to confront Khabur floods

The emergency committee in Hasaka city confirmed that it is working around the clock to prevent any potential disaster resulting from the recent rainfall, which has caused the Khabur River water levels rising in the city and its countryside, leading to flooding in some areas.

This came in a statement issued by the committee, read by the co-chair of the Hasaka municipality, Majed Ismail. The statement indicated that the committee has been working continuously since March 16, 2026, and includes all emergency departments, such as fire, sanitation, garage, lighting, and the water department, equipped with heavy machinery, service vehicles, and water tankers to support the field operations.

The committee noted that it has evacuated several families stranded in the areas of al-Meridian, Ghwairan al-Gharbi, Dulab al-Awais, al-Nashwa, and al-Layliya. It has also deployed seven large mobile pumps to remove water from homes and basements, repair sanitation equipment, pump and withdraw water, construct earthen barriers and open waterways to protect affected areas.

The committee confirmed in its statement that it will continue to work day and night until the weather conditions stabilize, and expressed its keenness to alleviate the suffering of the residents and ensure their safety in the face of any possible developments in the water level.
