Girê Spî displaced: We must return to our homes as soon as possible

According to the agreement held between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Interim Government, the return of displaced persons from Tel Abyad/Girê Spî, Ras al-Ayn/Serê Kaniyê, and Afrin to their areas and homes must be guaranteed.

Therefore, the displaced persons from Tel Abyad/Girê Spî, currently residing in shelters and schools in Kobani, issued a statement to the public opinion, demanding their safe return home and the repossession of their properties. The statement was read by teacher Yasmin Mohamed Ismail.

The statement made clear that the suffering of the displaced continues to this day, noting that they have been displaced again in recent years. Eight years after their initial displacement, they were forced to leave the areas of Ain Issa and Raqqa, and seek refuge in schools in Kobani.

The statement demanded their right to a safe and dignified return to their homes, emphasizing that this right is guaranteed under the agreement signed on January 29th between the SDF and the Syrian Interim Government, which aims to promote stability and cooperation among the various components of Syrian society.

The statement indicated that the living conditions inside Kobani's schools have become unbearable, given the absence of even the most basic necessities for a dignified life. It called upon relevant authorities, particularly the Syrian government, to work towards providing a safe environment that would allow displaced persons to return to their areas.

The statement stressed their rejection of hate speech and racism, explaining that such rhetoric contributes to deepening divisions within Syrian society, and confirming that the solution lies in reinforcing a culture of co-existence and building a democratic state.

The statement concluded by stressing that the demand for return is not only a human right, but also a defense of identity and dignity, calling on official bodies to implement the agreement's provisions swiftly and effectively to ensure a safe and stable return for displaced persons.
