The Regional Court in Itzehoe, in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, convicted four Syrian brothers of the attempted murder of a German language teacher after luring him under the pretext of helping him write a text in German. They then attacked him, stabbing him several times, leaving him with serious injuries that nearly proved fatal.

The court sentenced Ali and Saleh to seven and a half years in prison each, Omar to six years, and Bassam to four years in prison.

According to the investigation, the crime was linked to a relationship between the brothers’ mother and the victim. The court concluded that the attack had been carried out with prior planning, which it considered an aggravating circumstance that contributed to the harsher sentences imposed on the defendants.
