The Martyrs’ Families Council in Kobani held an expanded meeting on Tuesday at the council’s center to mark the anniversary of the July 14 Resistance, attended by dozens of martyrs’ families and residents of the city.

Pictures of martyrs of the Rojava and Kurdistan Resistance were displayed at the center, where the sacrifices made inside Turkish prisons were commemorated. Participants emphasized the need to preserve the values of the martyrs and strengthen the spirit of unity and social solidarity until freedom is achieved for all political prisoners, including leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The meeting began with holding a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs, followed by a speech delivered by Sarah Khalil, co-chair of the Martyrs’ Families Council in Kobani, who said: “Thanks to the sacrifices of martyrs Kemal Pir, Mohammed Hayri Durmuş, Ali Çiçek, and Akif Yılmaz, prisons were transformed into arenas of political resistance, and from these arenas emerged great values and gains for the Kurdish people.”

She added: “The resistance of these martyrs and their legacy continue to this day. The July 19 Revolution was an extension of this resistance. Thanks to leader Abdullah Ocalan’s resistance in İmralı Prison, which he transformed into an academy of training through his writings and analyses under the most difficult circumstances, a flame was lit that illuminates the path of the Kurdish people.”

She continued: “The books written by the leader became the foundation in international forums, conferences, and decisive meetings of the peoples of the Middle East. They also formed the basis of the philosophy of ‘Woman, Life, Freedom.’ The slogan ‘No life without the leader’ is the foundation everywhere in the world. All of this is part of the legacy of the July 14 Resistance.”

She concluded her speech by emphasizing: “With the spirit, struggle, and resistance of the July 14 martyrs, we will continue to struggle and resist until we achieve freedom for all political prisoners, including leader Abdullah Ocalan. We, at the Martyrs’ Families Council and as the families of martyrs, will preserve the legacy and achievements of the July 14 Resistance.”

The meeting concluded with a TV show documenting prison resistance in Turkey and the struggle and steadfastness of the July 14 martyrs in the face of the Turkish occupation until their final moments.
