GCC calls for combating extremism, and Incitement, respecting diversity in Syria

The final communiqué issued by the 46th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain Summit), held today, emphasized the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs.

The statement noted that Syria’s security and stability are essential pillars of regional stability. It stressed adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, including state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, good neighborliness, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, in order to preserve regional and international peace and security.

It also highlighted the need to confront terrorism and chaos, combat extremism, fanaticism, and incitement, and promote respect for diversity and the beliefs of others, condemning all acts of violence in Syria.

The Supreme Council welcomed the agreement reached on March 10, 2025, to integrate all civilian and military institutions in northeastern Syria into the institutions of the Syrian state—an agreement expected to support ongoing state-building efforts and enhance national unity and coexistence in Syria.

The Council condemned the repeated Israeli attacks and violations against Syria, describing them as blatant assaults on its sovereignty and stability that undermine the country’s security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens.

It called on all Syrian parties to prioritize reason and dialogue, reject calls for division, and strengthen solidarity among the Syrian people in order to advance the process of building the new Syrian state.

The Supreme Council also reaffirmed its support for UN efforts and other initiatives aimed at assisting Syrian refugees and internally displaced people, and ensuring their voluntary and safe return to Syria in accordance with international standards.

 It reiterated its rejection of any attempts to alter Syria’s demographic composition and echoed the UN Secretary-General’s call for the establishment of a UN mission in Syria.
